There Otter Be a Law Against It

If you aren’t aware, the heirs of a classic set of children’s books allowed the publication of a sequel. Yet another creator spinning in his grave, I’m sure. When judgment day comes, these creators will be in great shape from all the exercise.

What’s worse, they introduced an unnecessary new character. It’s down on paper and we’re stuck with the bossy little otter, but at least I got the chance to give her what she (and the people behind this book) deserve. And the Hundred-Acre Wood crew deserve better than what they’ve gotten: first Disneyfication and now this. If you haven’t read (or recently re-read) Winnie the Pooh and House at Pooh Corner, I recommend the experience highly.

    Welcome back! You’ve been missed!

and I had not known about the sequels with the otter. I will just add it to my Discontinuity list on TVTropes.org — things I refuse to acknowledge exist.

Glad to know I’ve been missed. And I’ll check out that site: my life is full of things I wish to refuse to acknowledge. Because I’m a grumpy old git, I guess.

What?!? I’m okay with the original Disney work on Pooh, the later films suck, the TV series was hit or miss and the Hydrophilic live action and later baby with girl series are abominations. I’m happily ignorant of this new travesty, which is a shock as I work part-time in the kids department of our library. Mustn’t have turned up yet. I’ll be sure to speed it’s demise once it does.

I am so glad that you haven’ been made aware of this until now, but sorry to break the bad news to you. It’s called “Return to the Hundred Acre Wood”, and it’s been approved by the Milne estate. The reviews have mostly been of the “it’s not bad, but why bother when it can’t match up to the original” sort.
